Default Asus G73Jh Problem Reports Log

1. Asus g73jh may have a problem detecting a non initialized ssd drive (intel x25 excluded). To make it work simply initialize the drive on another computer.

2. The video card may fail in a number of ways.
a. Blank screen with fans on after playing a game or running 3dmark
b. screen artifacts as noted in another thread in this forum by author "zekebe"

3. constant power on where it is imposible to turn the unit off. requires new motherboard

4. failed memory port. This may cause the g73 to turn on and function normall but only detect a portion of the memory that is installed.

5. the gpu aluminum heatsink can separate due to a faulty anchor. this will cause the video card to fail, overheat or develop artifacts. One of the 4 screws on the heatsink will remain loose causing the heatsink to separate from the gpu die. An abrupt shutdown will follow.

6. there is a conflict between creative softwares and Steam. For all the gamers (which is probably 90% of g73 owners) using steam, uninstall all Creative components and the pb should be solved.

7. Bluray drive model uj141 may freeze during playback. This drive is not broken but needs to be replaced for any other model like ct21n.

8. Grey lines on screen and other artifacts have been linked to ati drivers 10.5 and 10.6. DO NOT update your video drivers. Once upgraded you will not be able to restore without formatting.

9. ramdom loud audio white noise http://ynot2k.netfirms.com/images/g73noise.wmv
this is the audio file for this problem. a motherboard replacement is required

update on ssd issue
so far we know that atleast on Kingston ssd drives the issue is caused by the dimmensions of the drive it self. to fix this simply remove the 2 black foam/rubber stickers near the sata port. these square stickers prevent the interface from connecting.

we have seen more then a fair share of rma on this unit. luckily most of our orders are custom and we have had only few that failed in the field. It is not something i would be concerned about as an end users. It is something that your dealer should worry about however most dealers these days have a "dont know dont care" aproach when it comes to rma

Hi Everyone. I bought my G73jh about 4 months ago and I am in love with the damn machine. It has always performed exceptionally untill about a week ago.
My laptop turns itself off during graphic intense games. The whole point of getting this gaming laptop was to play games, but now it turns itself off mid game. Portal and starcraft 2 seems to do it.
Its weird how it turnes off, it turns off as if I told it to turn off and i can turn the comp back on right away and it acts as if nothing as happened. I work from home and my computer is my life, so any threat to it scare the shit out of me. Please help me, i want my g73jh back in tip top shape. its like theres some glitch in the graphics card that tells the computer to shut off

Default Sod

I have some sort of Screen of Death I believe. After pushing the windows key on the lower left hand of my G73 keyboard the screen went psychadelic. The left hand of the screen only displays multicolored lines while the right half is psychadelic looking with a pinkish tint and multicolored layers. I assume this is something that can't be fixed by myself and is a screen issue. Does anyone have any information on this?

I must also point out that I never updated any drivers, this happened with the stock drivers. After reading more on other forums I'm lead to believe that this is the dreaded PSOD, which means it needs to be sent in for a replacement screen. This is BS.

Yep, that link is the exact screen that I get. After researching this last night I had found out that it has been a problem with the cheap display they've been using on the G73. In addition, I had found several complaints from people who have RMA'd it to Asus just to have Asus put on a lower resolution screen (the Best Buy Model Screen).

they can do this overseas but typically these mistakes do not happen overseas. If they do this count your blessings as you would amost qualify under lemon law. I dont think the display was cheap it just has a fault rate that is more then expected
