I've done over 7 hours of research and I've heard that SSD's with SandForce controllers are the best because it compresses the memory therefore 1GB file takes up only half of that on a SSD with a SandForce controller which also results in a faster write speed as well.
BUt I just wanted to share this info with you guys. The best hard drive I can think of with a sanforce controller is the ocz vertex 2, so if you plan to get one, I would recommend that. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1208/2/ I wanna get it, but I don't know how to install SSD's... I just know how to plug in into the laptop, but I heard that you have to get SSD's aligned or the performance can be damaged, and I also dont know much about cloning hard drives. If anyone know how to install one, that would be cool if you could post it in the instructional section of the forum :) |

The random read/write speeds are higher than intel SSD's, and plus it uses half the memory while being compressed to write any chunk of data which allows the SSD to last longer in performance life span which intel doesn't have while doing ECC enabled in the background as it performs tasks, and I found benchmark scores comparing various SSD's including the vertex 2 Sandforce which outperformed intel:
http://www.guruht.com/2010/01/ocz-ve...-vs-intel.html This is why Vertex 2 is the best out of all SSD's made by OCZ: http://www.guruht.com/2010/07/10-ssd...-compared.html This shows that the Sandforce controller and processor within the SSD is a technology thats beyond all other controllers currently in the market, and the vertex 2 is one of the few SSD's sold out on newegg.com Last edited by finaldestan1; 07-09-2010 at 12:25 PM. |

Those are pretty good benchmarks on SSD's. However, it still remains null as there are no such controllers for mobile computers at the moment!? So it becomes useless for mobile's. You did great on researching! I think I will be getting one for my desktop though, as it looks extremely beneficial as far as random seeking reads/writes! Very good thread

an excellent test for an ssd drive is timing how long it takes to expand the windows 7 installation off a dvd install disk. So far out of kingston, ocz, filemate, and most other brands i have tested hands on intel always blows them all away expanding files. Generally the tranfer rate on most ssd drives are very close and i would not trust the advertised transfer rates.

i would love to know what system they used for testing. Also i am a fan of ocz tech however their drives are pricey and in the past atleast from my own tests on various notebooks their drives did not live up to expectations.
